“I love the silent hour of night, for blissful dreams may then arise, revealing to my charmed sight what may not bless my waking eyes.” - Anne Brontë
The night is full of ambiguity, aesthetically intriguing, a space to strip off the everyday life. It is fascinating, exciting, full of social activity – and yet, most of us sleep through it. We, a group of seven photographers, lift the veil and show what usually is obscured: In Nocturnes, each of us photographically explore life in the nighttime, communities and existences that bloom after dusk, thrive before daybreak, are dependent on the darkness. Nocturnes tells seven different stories of the sensations of the night, to show what we normally wouldn’t see.
In January 2014, our exhibition Nocturnes will bring together the different tales in one display, celebrating the night as a space of social gathering.
